I have mixed feelings about this. One of the creepier movies I’ve seen in a long time but I felt the ending was unsatisfying. Another horror movie with a silly twist ending. There was a lot of good here but ultimately it is just okay. The acting is amazing and top notch cast starring Toni Collette and Alex Wolff. Featuring Ann Dowd who I recognized as Aunt Lidia from The Handmaiden’s Tale.
I liked this zombie film a lot. More than any of the genre I’ve seen, it really addressed the problem of isolation. I love films like this that are mostly quiet and all about a single characters internal journey. The way the zombies were portrayed was also pretty unique, if not completely original. How many ways can one depict reanimated corpses? They were similar to the infected in 28 Days Later but were actually diseased. But unlike The Walking Dead, the animated corpses didn’t seem to continue to rot and decay whereas genuinely deceased bodies did.
Such a realistic and naturalistic portrait of what it is do be a young teenager in our modern world with social media. The performances were so natural and true to life it almost felt like a documentary. A very unique and worthy film.
just watched “Bird Box”. I liked it. It was pretty good and worth a watch. It’s been compared to a lot of other suspenseful horror films but I disagree with this and think most horror films of a man versus nature plot could be compared.
It started out as a very spooky but quickly turned dumb. It had some good jump scares and a creepy vibe happening and then they made it stupid and ruined the supernatural elements into some “people under the stairs” BS. A stupid twist ending just to have a twist. I hate when filmmakers do that.
A film starring Forest Whitaker and Theo James. Interesting apocalypse movie in that it dealt with the dynamic of a man and his father-in-law. I felt the performances where very strong for the leads of film and overall I thought it was pretty good.
I originally gave it a 3.75 out of 5 stars because I liked the relationship between the father in law and son in law but after viewing the ending again and being honest it gets a 2.25 overall.
I thought it was a pretty good coming-of-age drama and had some good parts. I’m not sure, for me, that it was as great as the critics thought. It was well acted and directed for sure, but there was nothing transcendent about the story. It was good and I liked it, but not particularly ground-breaking or a masterpiece.
An interesting though somewhat odd science fiction movie. There is a lot that I liked about the film, but there were some perplexing plot turns that didn’t make sense and just seemed to be in there to up the stakes but for seemingly no good reason. Overall I liked it.
I thought it was a great movie. It might not be groundbreaking and the premise of precociously intelligent children has been run into the ground and is a bit of a deus ex machina here but I still enjoyed the performances and story. Worth watching, in my opinion.
