Live-Trace + Gradient Maps
This digital technique involves enlarging a photograph and then creating a vector using live-trace in Adobe Illustrator. The image is then filtered through one or several gradient maps with the colors and values adjusted to compliment the composition and then a composite is made in Photoshop.
A base photograph is used and triangular shapes are manually created and the color underneath is filled with an average of the sample region. Since the triangles are all created by hand manually the resulting image is less a composite and more of a detailed trace. The final output is an illusion which resembles faceted low-polygon 3 dimensional models.
